Christians have been praying about planting a Baptist church in Tranent for over 100 years. From tent missions by the ‘Charlotte Chapel Evangelistic Society’ in the 1920s, to cooperative prayer meetings focussed on church planting between Portobello, Dalkeith & Musselburgh Baptist churches in the 1990s, our church is in many ways the product of lots of prayers in the past.
We believe what Christians have believed for over two millennia and stand in the history and practice of reformed and confessional Baptist churches of the past 500 years.
In 2023 a small group of Christians began meeting to again pray about planting a Baptist church in Tranent. In August 2025, Tranent Community Church covenanted together with 13 local people (plus 12 kids!) who had previously been part of Musselburgh Baptist Church, Gracemount Community Church, and Niddrie Community Church. Tim Rawlinson and Mark Sutherland were sent by Musselburgh Baptist Church to serve as pastors to lead the work.
We are a mixture of people who live in Tranent and its surrounding villages, gathered by the good news of Jesus, with the desire to worship him and make him known.
We’re not ‘special’ people – but in Jesus we’ve found HOPE, FORGIVENESS, PEACE, JOY, and LIFE.
We are shaped by Biblical preaching, reformed theology, meaningful membership, and elder-led congregationalism. We gather as a whole church every week to worship God according to the Bible, in ways that fuel discipleship, evangelism, and missions through the local church.
